The Togolese government announced on Wednesday 14 October zero-interest bridge loans and a one-year moratorium on loan repayments for traders affected by the fire at the Anié market, in the Plateaux region. The scheme is set out in a publication on the country's official portal dated 15 October.

These measures are to be channelled through the National Fund for Inclusive Finance, the FNFI, to support the resumption of activities. The bridge loan is intended to rebuild traders' capital, while the moratorium covers existing loans and starts from 28 September 2026, the date of the fire.

The compensation announced varies according to the victims' insurance coverage. Beneficiaries who took out FNFI insurance are to be compensated in full, up to the limit of declared losses. For other victims, the government plans to cover 50% of losses.

The scheme also includes opening a refinancing window for all decentralised financial services present in the affected area. People wishing to obtain further information on access to credit are invited to call the freephone number 80.00.00.12.

The fire broke out on the night of 27 to 28 September. It destroyed large quantities of goods, according to the government portal, which reports no loss of life. The origin of the fire remains unknown.
