The Central Bank of West African States offered banks in the West African Monetary Union up to 6,450 billion FCFA on Monday, 12 October 2026, as part of its weekly liquidity tender. Bids, open to eligible institutions, carried a minimum rate of 3% and had to be submitted before 10 a.m. GMT.
This operation, referenced 41/H/2026, has a one-week term. The BCEAO also posted amounts for longer maturities, bringing the total indicative envelope of the windows offered to 6,697.9 billion FCFA.
These figures correspond to the sums put up for tender, not to the amount actually obtained by banks. The latter depends on the bids received, the rates offered and the central bank's allocation decision. The detailed result should specify the number of participants, the marginal rate, the weighted average rate and the volume ultimately allotted.
The weekly refinancing allows banks to cover their cash needs and contributes to the transmission of monetary policy across the union's eight countries. It does not, however, constitute a direct injection of credit into businesses or households, since turning this liquidity into loans depends on lending decisions by institutions and on creditworthy demand.
The minimum rate of 3% corresponds to the BCEAO's main policy rate at the time of the tender. The marginal lending facility rate is set at 5%, according to the monetary conditions published by the institution.
