More than 300 tanker trucks were stranded on Thursday, 15 October, at the border between Cameroon and the Central African Republic, according to Radio Ndeke Luka. Cameroonian drivers are calling for dialogue with the Central African government before resuming their activities.
The action has been going on for two weeks, the radio says. It affects tankers but does not involve freight trucks. The halt of these supply vehicles should therefore not be confused with a suspension of all commercial traffic between the two countries.
The Federation of Autonomous Trade Union Organisations of Transport in Cameroon had already backed the drivers stranded at Garoua-Boulaï and Béloko in a statement published on 6 October by 237infos. In it, the union asked the Cameroonian and Central African authorities to take measures to ensure the drivers' safety along the Douala-Bangui corridor.
