Gabon was due to hand over 16,000 land titles prepared under the mass regularisation exercise on Thursday, 22 October, in Libreville, according to an announcement by the Gabonese Press Agency published the previous day.
The operation, led by the Ministry of Housing, Habitat, Urban Planning and Land Registry, aims to secure occupation of plots and facilitate formal access to property ownership. The official handover was scheduled at the Nzeng-Ayong stadium.
The price of titles for Gabonese nationals was capped at 600,000 FCFA in February by the presidency. For this operation, the issuance fees for 150 beneficiaries deemed economically vulnerable must be fully covered, both in Libreville and in the provinces.
The 16,000 titles are one step in a broader programme. In February, the government set a target of 50,000 additional titles in 2026, after announcing the processing of 5,224 files within thirty days.
The reform also provides for a one-stop shop tasked with centralising and securing land procedures. These documents must give beneficiaries formal proof of ownership, whereas the slowness of administrative procedures has long perpetuated land insecurity.
