Eni said on Tuesday, 20 October, that it had launched start-up operations for the second phase of the Meleiha project in Egypt's Western Desert. The new facility is designed to process up to 100 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, according to the Italian group.

The project is due to increase gas available to the domestic market by connecting new production to existing Egyptian infrastructure. It is being carried out by Agiba Petroleum Company, the joint venture of Eni and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC).

The facilities include development wells, a gathering network, trunk pipelines and a new export pipeline. They are intended to treat gas extracted from the fields of the Meleiha unified concession. The announced capacity describes the sizing of the facility, not a production rate already reached.

Eni says it produced around 242,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in Egypt in 2025, on its share basis. Present in the country since 1954, the group notably operates in the Western Desert, the Gulf of Suez, the Nile Delta and the eastern Mediterranean.
