Chevron’s Nargis-2 gas well in Egypt’s Mediterranean waters confirmed the extension of reservoirs discovered in 2022 and encountered an additional gas-bearing interval, Egypt’s Petroleum Ministry and the US company announced on Saturday, October 24.

The well reached a depth of more than 5,000 metres and evaluations found up to 35 metres of net gas pay. The additional interval has what the official statement described as high-quality reservoir properties.

The results will support further appraisal of the discovery and an assessment of its commercial development options. No resource volume or production timetable was disclosed.

Drilling began in May through a partnership involving Chevron, Eni, Mubadala Energy, Tharwa Petroleum and the state-owned Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company. The well is being drilled from the Stena Forth vessel, which Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi visited when operations started.

The ministry still describes Nargis as an undeveloped discovery and is seeking to convert identified resources into developable reserves to increase domestic gas production.
