Egypt's minimum monthly pension will rise from 1,755 to 2,080 pounds in January 2027, said Gamal Awad, head of the National Organisation for Social Insurance, on Wednesday, 21 October. The measure will represent an increase of 325 pounds, or 18.5%.

About 380,000 pensioners currently receive this minimum amount, according to the official, who was speaking at the Egypt Forum 2026 in Cairo. Ahram Online notes that these include people who have completed the minimum contribution period of fifteen years and paid their contributions on the basis of the lowest insured salary.

This announcement sets the level applicable from January, but the increase has not yet taken effect. The final amount of each pension will continue to depend on the length and base of contributions, Gamal Awad explained.

The increase follows a general 15% rise in pensions applied in July 2026. The public body had then put its annual cost at 70 billion pounds. The new measure will more directly target beneficiaries currently on the minimum.
