Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) cancelled the ordinary general meeting it had scheduled by videoconference for Monday, 26 October 2026. Shareholders of the Lomé-based banking group had been due to consider the revocation of directors’ mandates. The cancellation, announced on 23 October, followed instructions from the Banking Commission of the West African Monetary Union (WAMU).

In its notice dated Friday, Ecobank said the decision would allow further consultations with stakeholders on matters related to the meeting. The group did not set another meeting date or specify the issues to be discussed with its supervisor.

The group’s 39th ordinary general meeting had been called for 10:30 GMT, according to a notice issued on 2 October. That notice contained just one agenda item, the revocation of directors’ mandates, but did not identify the directors concerned or the number of mandates at stake.

For shareholders, the immediate consequence is that the vote scheduled for 26 October did not take place. Cancelling the meeting does not itself revoke any mandate or establish a change in the composition of the board. A proposal put to shareholders is distinct from a resolution they have actually adopted.

The cancellation statement, signed in Lomé on behalf of the board by company secretary Madibinet Cissé, explicitly referred to the instructions of the WAMU Banking Commission, the group’s main banking supervisor. It provided no replacement timetable.
