Côte d’Ivoire adopted a decree on 14 October at a Council of Ministers meeting, setting out the financing of the clearing of frequencies intended for 5G. It provides for State support for electronic communications providers whose assignments are affected by the reorganisation of the band between 3,300 and 3,600 MHz.
This segment of the spectrum, also known as the 3.5 GHz band, is already used by electronic communications services. Its reorganisation should make it possible to modernise networks and prepare the rollout of fifth-generation mobile technology, according to the government statement.
The decree also sets the financial parameters applicable to the reassignment and monitoring of frequencies. In particular, it determines the value of the band factor used in calculating usage and control fees. The measure thus concerns the conditions for reorganising the spectrum, ahead of the commercial rollout of 5G.
