Burkina Faso commissioned a public rice mill at Bagré on Tuesday, 20 October, capable of hulling 100 tonnes of paddy rice per day, with the aim of increasing local processing of national production.
The plant, funded from the State's own resources and run by state-owned company Faso Agro-Poles, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo. It is expected to absorb part of the stocks bought from producers under the "bord champ" purchasing operations.
The industrial line covers cleaning, hulling, whitening, optical sorting, grading, storage, weighing and bagging. The system is meant to ease processing constraints that limit the sale of local rice and its availability on the market.
The project is part of the Agro-pastoral, Water and Fisheries Offensive 2026-2028. Authorities present it as a lever to improve the quality of Burkinabe rice and consolidate producers' outlets.
The cost of the mill and the timetable for ramping up its operations have not been disclosed. The announced capacity corresponds to a maximum daily throughput, not to an annual volume actually produced.
