The Nigerian government has released an additional 4.04 billion naira to pay severance to 600 former Nigeria Airways employees, the Ministry of Finance announced on Monday, 19 October, in Abuja.
This tranche concerns beneficiaries in batches 010 and 011. Their gross entitlements amount to 4.251 billion naira, of which 212.55 million is deductions. The net amount made available for payment comes to exactly 4,038,490,850.18 naira, according to the statement signed by the minister's spokeswoman, Maryann Duke.
The ministry says it is proceeding in batches, after verifying the eligibility of former employees and their files. The operation continues the settlement of severance payments still owed by the former national carrier.
The government had announced in September an initial envelope of 18 billion naira covering 2,700 former employees spread across the first nine batches.
