Collective investment schemes registered in Nigeria held 9.89 trillion naira in net assets on 9 October, with 67.96% invested in money market funds, according to weekly data published by the Securities and Exchange Commission in October.

Industry assets increased by 43.76 billion naira in one week, or 0.44%, from 9.84 trillion to 9.89 trillion naira. Money market funds alone held 6.72 trillion naira after a weekly increase of 45.81 billion.

Dollar-denominated funds ranked second with 1.75 trillion naira, equivalent to 17.7% of the total. Together, money market and dollar funds accounted for 85.66% of assets, leaving a much smaller share for equities, bonds and other categories.

Equity funds held 239.40 billion naira and bond or fixed-income funds held 230.92 billion. Their combined weight remained below 5%, while real estate investment trusts totalled 520.31 billion naira.

Between 21 August and 9 October, industry assets rose by 345.63 billion naira, or 3.62%. Over a similar period, money market funds gained 5.52% from 14 August.

A change in net asset value does not measure new subscriptions alone. It can also reflect redemptions, investment income and valuation changes. For dollar funds, conversion into naira adds a foreign-exchange effect.
