The Malawi Hauliers' Association expects around 287 tanker trucks carrying fuel during the week of 19 October, its spokesperson Frank Banda told the newspaper The Nation, in statements gathered on Sunday, 18 October. The announcement comes as the country faces petrol and diesel shortages.

A hundred Malawian trucks and 152 vehicles from the Tanzanian company Asas Limited have finished loading in Dar es Salaam, according to the association. Thirty-five other tankers are due to be loaded in Beira, Mozambique, where operations were announced to resume on Monday 19 October.

Deliveries therefore remain expected. Spokesperson for the energy regulator Fitina Khonje explained that the stock shortages were linked to a lack of foreign currency, which limits financing for imports even when fuel purchases are a priority.
