Ghana's producer prices rose 4.8% year on year in September, compared with 4.4% in August, according to the latest data from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), reported by the Ghanaian press on Tuesday, 20 October.

This 0.4 percentage point rise in the annual rate extends an upward trend that began after June. The year-on-year increase then stood at 3.5%, before rising to 4% in July and then 4.4% in August.

The index tracks prices received by producers for their goods and services. It shows price movements upstream of sales to households, rather than the cost of raw materials bought by businesses alone.

Consumer prices follow a different indicator. Their annual rise reaches 5.2% in September, compared with 5% in August, according to the GSS.
