Ghana paid on Thursday, 15 October, salary adjustments and promotion arrears to 49,725 teachers of the Ghana Education Service (GES), the Controller and Accountant-General's Department (CAGD) announced in a statement dated the same day.

These payments, made with October salaries, cover sums due since 1 January 2026. They bring to 56,003 the number of teachers paid under this file, including the 6,278 beneficiaries paid in September.

The payment comes before the 16 October deadline agreed between government representatives and teachers' unions at a meeting held on 2 October at the Ministry of Education. The CAGD says it has paid all teachers whose submitted documents met the payroll processing requirements.

The file remains open, however, for some of the promoted staff. Of about 80,000 teachers concerned, the GES had submitted supporting documents for 56,633 people. Among these files received, 630 remain pending due to difficulties identified during checks.

Files for 23,367 other teachers still have to be processed by the GES, then sent to the payroll service. The CAGD specifies that it will make eligible payments after receiving the necessary corrections or complete and verified documents.
