Banque internationale pour l’industrie et le commerce du Bénin reports a profit of FCFA 18.368 billion in the first half of 2026. The half-year report and IFRS statements published on the BRVM on 21 September show an increase of 11% year on year.
Banking revenues grow faster than profit
Net banking income reaches FCFA 31.882 billion, a rise of 19%. This line item represents revenue from banking activity after the charges directly linked to generating it; it is separate from the final result.
The comparison of the cost of risk requires particular attention. In the first half of 2026, it represents a charge of FCFA 3.579 billion. A year earlier, the item was a write-back of FCFA 2.376 billion. By our calculation, the change in contribution between the two periods therefore amounts to FCFA 5.955 billion.
Reading the change of sign
A write-back of provisions brings income into the accounts; an allocation or risk charge reduces profit. Moving from one to the other can slow profit growth even when commercial activity is rising. This reading explains why the sign of the item must be examined, beyond its absolute value alone.
Revenues thus rise faster than published net profit. To track the bank, upcoming accounts will allow this revenue momentum to be compared with the cost of risk and operating expenses. Half-year figures inform about the company; the share price, for its part, reflects market trading.
