Gabon plans to commission nine dual-fuel turbines totalling 255 megawatts at Akournam, Port-Gentil and Lambaréné in mid-November 2026, the government announced at the Council of Ministers on 8 October.
AKSA Enerji supplied seven turbines for the plants of the Société d’Énergie et d’Eau du Gabon at Akournam and Port-Gentil. Two others, delivered by Solar Energy Sustainable Services, are to boost output at Port-Gentil and supply the Lambaréné plant.
Equipment for Akournam and Port-Gentil was installed between the 1st and 9th of September. Deployment was delayed by three months, which the government attributes to disruption in the Strait of Hormuz. The announced capacity is therefore not yet available to households and businesses, even though the turbines are already on site.
In the meantime, Port-Gentil is supplied by the Société de Patrimoine, while the SEEG and independent producers ensure continuity in Greater Libreville, according to the official statement. The Gabonese Press Agency confirmed the timetable presented by the executive.
The government also updated on the Kinguélé Aval hydroelectric project, with a capacity of 35 megawatts. Civil works are 95% complete, and commissioning of three turbines is planned between October and December, after connection to the grid.
Operation of Kinguélé Aval, however, remains conditional on two permits whose files have been submitted. The government estimates that once completed, the complex will be able to supply more than half of the electricity consumed in Greater Libreville, a projection that still depends on completion of the works, grid connection and the permits.
