Chevron is targeting first gas production in 2028 at the offshore Aseng field in Equatorial Guinea, Jim Swartz, the group's head for Nigeria and Central Africa, said in Cape Town on Wednesday 14 October, according to Reuters.

The project, valued at 690 million dollars, is expected to reach a new milestone with the likely arrival of a drilling rig in early 2027. The rig is to drill a development well and connect Aseng to existing infrastructure, the executive said.

The goal is to extend gas supply to the liquefied natural gas export chain. On 13 October, Chevron had presented the Aseng development as a way to support these exports until the middle of the 2030s, according to the report published by the organizers of African Energy Week.

The final investment decision was made in March, according to the same report. The development plans to use the existing intermediate facilities to transport gas from the field, according to information presented at the conference.

Subsea7 announced on April 1 that it had obtained from Noble Energy EG, a Chevron subsidiary, the subsea installation contract linking an Aseng well to the Alen platform. Its scope includes about 19 kilometres of production pipeline and 20 kilometres of umbilical links, as well as equipment and connections at depths of 800 metres.
