Consumer prices in Cape Verde rose 2.7% year on year in September 2026, compared with 1.1% in August, according to data published on Wednesday 14 October by the National Statistics Institute, INE. The pace of increase thus accelerated by 1.6 percentage point in one month.

Between August and September, the index rose 1.1%, after a 0.1% decline the previous month. Since December 2025, the cumulative price increase reaches 1.4%, the institute's release indicates.

The rise also concerns the underlying indicator, which excludes energy and unprocessed food products. Its annual change reaches 1.5% in September, 1.2 percentage point higher than in August. This calculation makes it possible to track prices beyond products prone to sharp fluctuations.

The average change over the past twelve months also stands at 1.5%, compared with 1.4% in August. This indicator compares two successive twelve-month periods, while the 2.7% rate compares only the months of September 2026 and September 2025.

In the basket used by the INE, food and non-alcoholic beverages account for about 25.2% of reference spending, housing and associated charges 24.5%, and transport 13%. The national index aggregates price surveys from the regions of Santo Antão, São Vicente and Santiago.
