The BRVM placed financial education and investor protection at the centre of its participation, on 8 October 2026, in the international “Ring the Bell for Financial Literacy” initiative. The campaign accompanies World Investor Week, held from 5 to 11 October.
Digital channels at the heart of vigilance
The 2026 edition highlights, among other things, investor resilience, digital deception and scams. For the BRVM, broader access to financial products must be accompanied by a better understanding of their features and risks.
The institution promotes BRVM Academy, which offers educational content to investors, professionals and the general public. The challenge goes beyond knowledge of share prices: it also concerns the ability to read financial information and to identify the parties offering a transaction.
A recent reminder on offers of foreign securities
In a statement dated 28 September and distributed by the BRVM on 30 September, the AMF-UMOA reminded residents of the Union of the conditions for subscribing to public offers of securities issued outside the WAEMU and also offered on its platform.
The authority refers to the regulation of 20 December 2024 on external financial relations. It notes that investments abroad are subject to the formalities and authorisations provided for by regulation. The marketing of foreign securities in member states also requires its prior authorisation.
Checking the transaction and the intermediary
The AMF-UMOA asks investors to verify the legitimacy of the offer, the status of intermediaries and the completion of formalities, both within the Union and on the market concerned. These checks form the practical side of the savings protection message.
An online presentation should therefore be compared with the transaction documents and information from the competent authority. The BRVM campaign and the regulator’s statement address the same need: giving savers the means to understand an offer before committing.
