The BRVM ended the Friday session of 9 October with a pullback in its main indices. The Composite stands at 546.86 points, against 548.41 at the previous close. The BRVM 30 falls to 264.57 points, a decline of 0.39%, and the Prestige to 203.08 points, down 0.26%, according to official data from the regional exchange.

Two paths for Beninese banks

Banque internationale pour l’industrie et le commerce du Bénin, listed under the ticker BICB, closes at 8,440 FCFA after 8,520 FCFA the previous day. The decline represents 80 FCFA per share, or 0.94%. The session covers 2,285 shares. Bank of Africa Bénin, meanwhile, remains at 9,400 FCFA, with 6,500 shares traded.

In Côte d’Ivoire, Bridge Bank Group gains 1.96%, to 10,400 FCFA, with 21,285 shares traded. This contrast illustrates that a fall in the regional index can coexist with individual gains. The observed movements alone are not enough to attribute them to a change in the banks’ results or outlook.

A one-day decline to be distinguished from the annual picture

Despite Friday’s fall, the Composite retains a gain of 1.70% since 31 December. The BRVM 30 remains up 1.97% over the same reference period, and the Prestige by 1.47%. It is therefore important to distinguish the movement of a single session from the cumulative performance since the start of the year.

These indicators do not cover exactly the same universe. The Composite tracks all listed companies. The BRVM 30 brings together the thirty most-traded stocks over a quarter, while the Prestige covers those in that segment. Their comparison helps place the market’s movement, without replacing the examination of each company’s share price, trading volume and specific information.

For shareholders in Beninese banks, the next session will show whether the movements continue. Published prices describe past transactions; they constitute neither a return forecast nor an indication of the dividend to come.
