Mauritius recorded 114,506 tourist arrivals in September 2026, an increase of 9.6% year on year, according to provisional data published on 12 October by Statistics Mauritius. For the first nine months of the year, the country again exceeds the one-million mark in arrivals.
The January to September total reached 1,042,241 arrivals, compared with 1,008,098 over the same period in 2025, a rise of 3.4%. The gain represents 34,143 additional arrivals, with growth stronger in September than over the nine months as a whole.
Arrivals from South Africa are contributing to this growth. Arrivals from South Africa reached 83,701 from January to September, up 10.4% year on year. In September alone, they rose 41.6%, to 13,139, according to the same statistics.
France remains the leading source market with 226,429 arrivals over the nine months, a nearly flat figure, up 0.1%. Arrivals from the United Kingdom fell 10%, to 100,820, while arrivals from Germany rose 13.2%, to 94,591.
The revenue figures cover a shorter period. The Bank of Mauritius estimates gross tourism earnings from January to August at 74.577 billion Mauritian rupees, compared with 63.015 billion a year earlier, a rise of 18.35% in nominal terms. Its statement of 9 October notes that visitor spending may be collected either before or after the month of the stay.
Air transport remains dominant, with 1,017,442 arrivals over the first nine months, up 2.6%. Arrivals by sea reached 24,799, a rise of 52.1% from a base of 16,305 a year earlier.
