Burkina Faso has suspended exports of millet, maize and sorghum flours, as well as their derivatives, until further notice, according to a statement from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Crafts dated Friday 9 October 2026. The measure applies across the whole country and aims to keep these products available to Burkinabè consumers.

The decision is accompanied by a halt to the issuance of special export authorisations for the goods concerned. It thus closes the administrative procedure that allowed operators to ship them abroad, pending a new instruction from the authorities.

Signed by Minister Serge Gnaniodem Poda, the statement cites domestic market availability and consumer accessibility as the objectives of the restriction. It sets neither a date for resuming exports nor a quantified target for price changes.

To enforce the suspension, the ministry is calling on economic operators to work with the State's technical services. Officers at border posts and security forces are also asked to monitor compliance with the decision.

Offences expose those responsible to the penalties provided for under the regulations in force. The ministry invites consumers to report breaches to the toll-free numbers 80 00 11 84, 80 00 11 85 and 80 00 11 86.
